Iran population by province
Iran's population in calendar year 2025 is estimated at about 92,417,681 people. The three most populous provinces — Tehran, Razavi Khorasan, Isfahan — together account for 30.9% of the country's population.
Two periods, two figures The national figure above is from the World Bank and refers to 2025; the provincial table below sums to 80,528,000 people, i.e. 11,889,681 fewer — because the available provincial breakdown is from an older period and Statistics Centre of Iran does not allow automatic fetching. So read the provincial table for each province’s share, not for today’s headcount.

No province with that name is in the table.
Limit of this comparison: Rank and share are always calculated relative to the whole country, not relative to selected provinces. Two indicators with different reference periods (for example, a 1402 estimate and the 1395 census) are not comparable; if periods differ, a warning appears above the table. These data are annual or multi-year and none are real-time; "Date received" is when we recorded the value, not when it was measured. Any figure that is an estimate is labeled as such and does not replace official counts. "Share of total" is shown only for additive indicators (counts), not for percentages and averages.
Market size estimate
To build TAM, SAM and SOM with explicit, sourced assumptions, use the market size tool (TAM/SAM/SOM) ; population alone is not a number of buyers.
Estimate, not official statistics Enter two assumptions of your own; the page only multiplies each province’s population by them: population × penetration × annual spend per user. Nothing is stored.
Under review
A province map, age pyramid, urban/rural split and filters by year/sex/age group need disaggregated census data with a clear republishable source and license — not yet fully vetted. Rather than invent numbers, this section stays honestly empty until ready.
Method and data limits
- What the population figure is
- Estimate population of each province for reference period 2023 (Gregorian). Source: Statistical Centre of Iran, via the Wikipedia “Provinces of Iran” table; Licence: Wikipedia table under CC BY-SA with attribution; figures cited from the Statistical Centre of Iran; Fetched on: 16 September 2026. This figure was entered once by hand and has no automated fetch behind it; population does not change minute by minute, and this page does not claim to be real-time.
- Why we do not read directly from the Statistical Centre
- The National Statistics Portal terms of use (the “About the National Statistics Portal” page) reserve the right to use and publish all data exclusively for the Statistical Centre, require written permission for any use, and disallow robots and data mining. Until there is clear permission, no table from that portal is fetched or republished automatically; extra indicators on this page are added only by manual entry, with source name, licence, reference period, and retrieval date, and with an explicit decision to publish.
- What “Compare” does and does not do
- What it does: places several provinces side by side in one indicator for a reference period, and shows each one's rank and share relative to the whole country. What it does not do: it does not merge two different periods, call an estimate a census, add percentages and averages, or turn population into sales or revenue — a market-size estimate is the product of your own assumptions.
- URL keys
- The compare link carries only fixed English keys for provinces and indicators (e.g. tehran or razavi-khorasan); unknown keys are ignored and the page returns to its default state.
